Kathleen

Teaching high school is difficult enough, but when you can't see what's going on in the back of the classroom, your day just became much tougher. For more than 20 years, Kathleen had struggled with eyeglasses and contacts in a work environment that put her vision to the test, and then she turned to laser eye surgery.

"No matter how hard you try, a classroom is never very clean, especially with all the chalk dust being circulated by ceiling fans. I would rub my eyes all day causing them to burn. I was always so fatigued by the end of the day from this. Plus, I can't begin to count the number of times my teaching was distracted by a contact lens problem."

The 35-year-old English and Spanish teacher was delighted to learn that new technology had improved laser eye surgery, offering not only the standard traditional LASIK benefits of a short recovery time and minimal discomfort, but also a possibility for better quality of vision.

"I also had trouble seeing in dim light, especially at dusk. I couldn't differentiate things. Now, I see perfectly - day, evening, and night."

Kathleen and her family also enjoy the outdoors, especially swimming and water skiing in the summer.

"Before CustomCornea®, if I fell while I was water skiing, it was 'bye-bye contacts' because they always popped out. Now, I've discovered a new freedom of relief from the constant fear and worry about what to do next time I lose a contact."

Kathleen feels the surgery has truly changed her life both professionally and personally. She now sees better than 20/20 in both eyes.

"It saves you time, hassles, money, and greatly improves the quality of your life and lifestyle. You're never stuck without sight."

Kathleen also says she can now see past the kids in the back row and even see clearly what's on the computer screens. "It's better than good."

Results may vary and some people may still need to wear corrective lenses after LASIK. As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with having LASIK eye treatment and not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. Your eye doctor can discuss LASIK's risks and benefits with you, and help you determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK eye treatment.
