the company behind the LADARVision System: Alcon
Alcon is the world's leading eye care company, with more than 12,000 people around the world dedicated to preserving, restoring and enhancing vision and advancing the science of sight. Founded in 1945, Alcon was one of the very first companies to apply all of its energies and knowledge to the discovery and manufacturing of ophthalmic surgical, pharmaceutical, and vision care products.
Alcon & LADARVision®
When Alcon decided to round out its surgical product line by entering the refractive surgery segment, it first investigated existing systems in search of the most advanced technology in refractive surgery.
In 2000, Alcon acquired Summit Autonomous and the LADARVision® laser eye surgery system. Because of the acquisition, you may find LADARVision® referred to as the "Summit Autonomous Laser" or the "Autonomous Laser," when talking to people or searching the Web. While there may be confusion about the name for a while, you can be sure that both Summit Autonomous and LADARVision® are part of Alcon – the company and technology you have been discovering on this site.
Our Commitment to Sight
Alcon is committed to keeping the LADARVision® System at the leading edge of laser vision correction technology. In 2002, the company introduced CustomCornea®, the first FDA-approved and fully integrated system capable of customizing LASIK eye surgery for your specific vision problems.
